Quick Answer: FitSwitch can upload your Peloton workouts straight to Strava, with no watch, phone app or Peloton membership involved. Connect your Strava account once in FitSwitch Settings → Strava. After that, every ride, run or row you do outside the Peloton app uploads on its own: a free ride from the FitSwitch home screen, Zwift, Rouvy, Netflix, anything. Each activity carries second-by-second power, cadence, heart rate, speed and distance, plus incline on the Tread. It works on the Peloton Bike, Bike+, Tread and Row, and a free Strava account is enough.

Why Peloton's Own Strava Sync Falls Short
Peloton has a built-in Strava connection, but it only covers part of what you do on the bike:
- It needs an active Peloton membership. Cancel All-Access and new workouts stop syncing.
- It skips Just Ride. Free rides in Just Ride mode never reach Strava.
- It knows nothing about other apps. A Netflix ride, a YouTube spin or a Kinomap route on the Peloton screen isn't a Peloton workout, so nothing is sent.
- It sends summaries. You get totals, not a second-by-second power and cadence file.
Until now the workaround was recording each ride on a Garmin or Apple Watch and letting the watch sync to Strava. That still works, but you have to remember to start and stop the watch every time.
How FitSwitch Strava Upload Works
FitSwitch already reads your Peloton's sensors to drive the metrics overlay and broadcast your data. With Strava connected, it also records your workout on the tablet itself:
- You start moving. Pedal on the Bike, start the belt on the Tread or row on the Row, in any app.
- FitSwitch records. Power, cadence, heart rate, speed and distance are logged every second.
- You stop. About three minutes after you stop moving, FitSwitch closes the workout.
- It uploads. The workout goes to Strava as a FIT file, the same format Garmin devices use, and a message on screen confirms it.
There is nothing to start or stop and no phone involved.
Want this with real resistance control?
FitSwitch broadcasts your power and cadence, and adds full ERG and SIM mode on the Bike+ so training apps actually respond to your effort.

You only do this once per Peloton.
Step 1: Make sure FitSwitch is up to date. Strava upload arrived in the October 2026 update, and FitSwitch updates itself automatically.
Step 2: On the FitSwitch home screen, tap the gear icon to open Settings.
Step 3: Scroll to the Strava section and tap Strava ("Not connected. Tap to connect…").
Step 4: Strava's sign-in page opens. Sign in with your Strava email and password. Google and Apple sign-in don't work on this screen. If you normally use them, set a password first at strava.com under Settings → My Account.
Step 5: Strava asks what FitSwitch may do. Leave "Upload your activities from FitSwitch to Strava" ticked and tap Authorize.
Step 6: You're back in Settings, and the Strava row now reads "Connected as [your name]. Workouts upload automatically."
That's it. Your next workout uploads by itself.
To disconnect, tap the Strava row again and choose Disconnect. You can also remove FitSwitch at strava.com under Settings → My Apps.
What Gets Uploaded
| Bike / Bike+ | Tread | Row | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strava activity type | Ride (indoor) | Run (treadmill) | Rowing (indoor) |
| Power | Second by second | — | Second by second |
| Cadence | RPM | — | Stroke rate |
| Heart rate | If a monitor is connected | If a monitor is connected | If a monitor is connected |
| Speed & distance | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Incline | — | Yes | — |
| Calories & work (kJ) | Yes | — | Yes |
Every activity is marked as an indoor (trainer) workout, so it won't try to match outdoor segments. The description reads "Recorded with FitSwitch".
Heart rate comes from the monitor connected to FitSwitch. FitSwitch now works with both ANT+ and Bluetooth heart rate monitors. Without a monitor, the activity uploads without heart rate.
Power is the Peloton's own reading, the same number you see on the overlay. If your Bike's output seems off, see how Peloton calculates power.
When a Workout Starts and Ends
FitSwitch decides on its own when a workout begins and ends, so you never have to tap a button:
- Start: the moment you start pedaling, rowing, or the belt moves.
- Short breaks are fine: stop for a drink or switch apps for a minute or two and it stays one activity.
- End: about three minutes after you stop moving. Idle time at the end is trimmed off.
- Too short to keep: anything under five minutes of movement isn't uploaded, so a quick adjustment of the seat or a test spin won't clutter your feed.
- Peloton classes are skipped: while the Peloton app is on screen, FitSwitch doesn't record. Peloton uploads its own classes through its Strava connection, and recording both would give you two copies.
- Turning the screen off ends and saves the workout in progress.
No Wi-Fi? No problem
If the Peloton is offline when a workout ends, the workout is saved on the tablet and uploads once the connection is back. FitSwitch keeps retrying for you.
Avoiding Duplicate Activities
FitSwitch records every workout you do outside the Peloton app. If something else also uploads the same session, Strava will show it twice. Common doubles:
- Zwift, Rouvy, TrainerRoad, MyWhoosh or TrainerDay with their own Strava upload turned on
- A Garmin or Apple Watch recording the ride and syncing to Strava
- Wahoo, Garmin Connect or another service linked to Strava
Pick one source per kind of workout:
- Mostly Just Ride, streaming apps or a mix: let FitSwitch upload, and turn off Strava upload in the other app or skip recording on the watch.
- Mostly one training app whose Strava activities you like (Zwift's map and route names, for example): keep that app's upload and disconnect Strava in FitSwitch.
If a duplicate slips through, delete one copy in Strava. Deleting a FitSwitch upload in Strava doesn't affect anything on the Peloton.
Troubleshooting
I don't see a Strava section in Settings
Your FitSwitch hasn't updated yet. Updates install automatically. Reopen FitSwitch after a few minutes on Wi-Fi.
Sign-in says it couldn't connect
Check the Peloton is online, then try again. If you use Google or Apple to sign in to Strava, set a Strava password first (strava.com → Settings → My Account) and sign in with your email and password.
"FitSwitch needs permission to upload activities"
The upload box was unticked on Strava's permission screen. Tap the Strava row, connect again, and leave the box ticked.
My workout didn't appear
- Was it at least five minutes of movement?
- Were you in the Peloton app? Classes are left to Peloton's own sync.
- Was the Peloton online? An offline workout uploads once it's back on Wi-Fi. Tap the Strava row and choose Upload now if the status says a workout is waiting.
- Strava can take a minute or two to process a new upload.
"Strava access was removed. Tap to reconnect."
FitSwitch was removed from your Strava account (strava.com → My Apps), or you changed your Strava password. Tap the row and sign in again. Waiting workouts upload once you're reconnected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Peloton subscription to upload to Strava?
No. FitSwitch records from the bike's sensors, not from Peloton's servers, so it works with or without All-Access. Any workout outside the Peloton app uploads, including a free ride from the FitSwitch home screen.
Do I need Strava Premium?
No. A free Strava account can connect to FitSwitch and receive uploads.
Does it work on the original Peloton Bike, the Tread and the Row?
Yes. Strava upload works on the Peloton Bike, Bike+, Tread and Row. Bike and Bike+ upload rides, the Tread uploads runs, and the Row uploads rowing sessions.
Will my Peloton classes upload twice?
No. FitSwitch doesn't record while the Peloton app is open, so classes reach Strava only through Peloton's own integration (if you've set it up).
Does Just Ride upload to Strava?
Just Ride runs inside the Peloton app, which FitSwitch leaves to Peloton's own sync, and that sync needs a membership. For a free ride that reaches Strava, ride from the FitSwitch home screen or any app instead. The overlay shows the same power, cadence and heart rate, and the ride uploads when you finish.
Can two people in my house use it?
Workouts on a Peloton upload to the one Strava account connected to it. If someone else rides, their workout lands in that account too. Disconnect and reconnect to switch accounts, or delete the activity in Strava afterwards.
Does it upload heart rate?
Yes, if a heart rate monitor is connected to FitSwitch. Both ANT+ and Bluetooth monitors work. See the heart rate setup guide.
Do I still need my Garmin or Apple Watch?
Not for Strava. Many riders still use a watch for training load, recovery and Apple Health rings. If you do, turn off one of the two Strava uploads to avoid duplicates.
Is my Strava password stored on the Peloton?
No. You sign in on Strava's own page, and Strava gives FitSwitch a token that only allows uploading activities. FitSwitch can't see your activities or your password. Disconnecting revokes the token.
Can I upload rides I did before connecting?
No. FitSwitch only uploads workouts recorded after Strava is connected.
